Nurture KC’s Annual Event on June 20
‘Mind Over Matter: Maternal Mental Health in the KC Metro’
Kansas City, Mo., June 17, 2024 – Nurture KC is announcing our annual event focusing on how to improve maternal mental health for underserved communities in Kansas City. It’s open to the public, healthcare professionals and media on Thursday, June 20 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Loretto Auditorium, located at 1111 W. 39th Street.
The nationally-recognized keynote speaker is Jamie Belsito with Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance. We will also have several panel discussions with local leaders on access to resources, paid parental leave, social determinants, support for grieving parents and more from such partners as Saint Luke’s, University of Kansas Hospital Systems, University Health, Birth Equity Network, Missouri Hospital Association and United WE.
You can see the full agenda and register to attend here.
“This event puts maternal mental health in the spotlight, and offers some solutions, like why paid parental leave is critical,” says Tracy Russell, Executive Director of Nurture KC. “A mother’s mental health can be as important as her physical health, and it shapes the environment in which her children learn, grow and thrive. We need to have these conversations about how to make resources available to our underserved, new moms who need it most.”
Nurture KC helps make healthcare more equitable to the mothers we serve in our Healthy Start program through our doula services, Mother’s Voice counseling services, community health workers and nurse for our high-risk moms.
Nurture KC works to reduce infant mortality and improve family health for KC metro families who need the most support. We do so through public policy action and three main programs: Healthy Start, Mid America Immunization Coalition (MAIC) and the Fetal Infant Mortality Review Committee (FIMR). Nurture KC is committed to health equity for all families – regardless of race, place or circumstance – because we all deserve the opportunity to be healthy.
