Mother & Child Health Coalition staff are participating in several back to school and health & safety fairs this August. On Saturday, Aug. 4, Safe Kids Metro KC program coordinator DuJuan Hord, Anne Biswell and MCHC intern Amy Blunt distributed injury prevention materials to hundreds of KCK residents at the Wyandotte County Back-to-School Fair at Kansas City Kansas Community College. This included new information cards about Safe Haven for Newborns. (See below.)  An estimated 3,000 people attended the fair to receive back-packs filled with school supplies, as well as services such as free physicals, immunizations, dental screenings and haircuts, from many community partners.

Upcoming events include the Jackson County Back to School Bash in Independence on Saturday, Aug. 11 and a community fair at St. Matthew’s Baptist Church in Kansas City Missouri on the 25th.  Safe Kids will provide car seat checks at the Jackson County event. Contact DuJuan Hord at dhord@mchc.net to learn more.
