AHKEYA HOWARD
Community Engagement Director
Ahkeya Howard was the Lead Community Health Worker with our Healthy Start program at Swope Health for eight years. Now, as our Community Engagement Director, she is leading our community consortium within Healthy Start. This is a committee of community leaders coming together to improve pregnancy outcomes by addressing social determinants of health.
Before this role, Ahkeya worked at Swope Health for 21 years and also did family therapy for Missouri Children’s Division. Ahkeya received her Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Social Work from Columbia College, and went on to receive her Master’s degree in Social Work from KU. In addition, she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Through Healthy Start, she has received the following accreditations: Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Certified Community Health Worker (CHW-C) and Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST). Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her kids, exercising, dancing and volunteering with her church and in the community.
