PURPOSE & TARGET

Vaccines are widely available; however, every year in the United States, approximately 42,000 adult and 300 child deaths are due to vaccine-preventable diseases. Barriers affecting rates and making our society more vulnerable to the diseases they prevent include lack of knowledge, cost, fear of pain, poor record-keeping, time/transportation issues and recent anti-vaccine messages. All of these barriers serve to make Mid America Immunization Coalition’s promotion of immunizations among the entire population of the metro area even more urgent, because if there is one thing we know, it’s that vaccines work.

This multi-state symposium will feature local and national experts who will focus on the latest information relating to present and future immunization issues and ways to identify and implement communication and practice strategies to improve immunization rates, decrease vaccine hesitancy or refusal, and promote advocacy for immunizations throughout the lifespan.

PROGRAM GOALS

  • Identify effective strategies and tools to integrate into practice, that communicate the importance of vaccines.
  • Update current knowledge of the impact of seasonal influenza and the importance of
    promoting vaccination.
  • Integrate effective strategies to improve HPV vaccine uptake in practice.
  • Build awareness of recommendations on the immunization schedule for special patient
    populations.
  • Learn about practical aspects and educational resources for vaccines.
