Mid America Immunization Coalition (MAIC)
Mid America Immunization Coalition (MAIC) works to ensure vaccine safety and trust are prioritized in order to promote immunization for all of greater Kansas City’s children, adolescents and adults against vaccine-preventable diseases. This mission will be achieved through CARE: collaboration, advocacy, research and education.

Nurture KC and the Kansas Health Institute have both published separate, yet related, reports on vaccinations. These reports will be shared with decision makers at the capitol in Topeka and are now available to the public.
“We follow where the evidence leads,” says Tracy Russell, Executive Director of Nurture KC. “The creation of safe and effective vaccines has been a pillar of public health for decades. Our data shows the processes and procedures in place at a national and state level – ensuring a balance of evidence-based testing along with public input and recourse. At a time when disinformation may discourage vaccine uptake, it is important to revisit the checks and balances of rigorous vaccine research, administration and monitoring protocols that work.”

How do Kansans feel about vaccines?
More than 9-in-10 Kansas voters (95%) believe taking vaccines for such diseases as measles, mumps and polio is “extremely” or “very important” to maintaining good health. In fact, when it comes to staying healthy, 94% of Kansans believe it is more important to get wellness vaccines than it is to get an annual check-up at the doctor. Even across political party lines, Kansas residents strongly believe wellness immunizations are safe, effective and important for maintaining good health. It could be easy to think divisions over COVID-19 vaccine policies may lead to divisions over wellness vaccine policies. But Kansans are clear – they overwhelmingly support wellness vaccines, immunization requirements for children to attend schools and childcare, and leaving the authority of setting wellness vaccine policy to the state’s health department. Are you interested in promoting vaccination?
MAIC, formed in 1992, is a bi-state coalition with a presence in Jackson, Clay and Platte County in Missouri and Wyandotte and Johnson County in Kansas. MAIC provides education opportunities for health professionals and families, advocacy for immunization, and direct service to families through flu vaccine clinics. MAIC emphasizes the importance of vaccines at every age from infancy through senior adults.
